Blue Coast

The Blue Coast or Costa Azul, is located south of Lisbon and is a region in Portugal that offers an authentic depiction of Portuguese life.

How to Get There

Fly to Lisbon International airport and the beaches of the Blue Coast are just a 45 minute drive south. Flight time from the UK is around 2.5 hours.

There are frequent bus and train services between Setubal and Lisbon. They both take about an hour and both cost between €4-5, with regular departures throughout the day.

Climate

The climate on the Blue Coast is similar to Lisbon. This means warm and dry summers and mild winters.

June, July and August tend to be the warmest months of the year. The average annual temperature on the Blue Coast is 17°C.

The Serra da Arrabida Natural Park - Situated by the sea, the park offers some of the most stunning coastal scenery in the Lisbon area.

The highest point is in the Serra do Risco, a magnificent cliff 380m high that offers a unique view of the entire Serra da Arrabida Natural Park.

Good ways of getting to know this place, are by hiking or cycling the way along marked footpaths. You can choose the most appropriate level of difficulty, and even make night trips.

Portinho da Arrabida - one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Portugal. Whether you want to dip your toes or scuba dive, the beach's crystal blue waters are as fun to explore as they are mesmerising. 

Forte de Sao Filipe, Setubal Castle – Standing above Setubal, The Forte de Sao Filipe is one of the most notable landmarks of the entire region.

The castle has been restored so that visitors can now explore the monument's battlements and grounds and the inside has been turned into a hotel with a restaurant that offers a view of the entire fishing port.
